Opening Day is upon us and the Miami Marlins lineup is not looking good. Injuries to said lineup are not making things better. Well, we can still have hope and after all, every team is currently starting from scratch. Miracles do happen, even if they're very unlikely when it comes to The Fish. We can also finally project the Opening Day roster.
Miami Marlins Opening Day roster isn't exciting.
Let's start our look at the Miami Marlins OD roster by looking at the rotation. Sandy Alcantara is the Opening Day starter. Max Meyer is penciled in as the second starter, followed by Cal Quantrill. The final two spots at least to start the season, will be held by Connor Gillispie and Valente Bellozo.
Now we can turn our attention to the Opening Day bullpen. This unit will include righty and former closer Anthony Bender. It will also include righty Lake Bachar. Righty Ronny Henriquez is yet another reliever. Righty George Soriano will hopefully take steps forward. Lefty Anthony Veneziano is the lefty of the unit. Newly acquired righty Tyler Phillips is in there as well. Righty Jesus Tinoco will likely have set-up duties and be followed by righty closer Calvin Faucher.
Turning over to the lineup, it starts with catcher Nick Fortes. He's followed by first baseman Matt Mervis, who will hopefully break out this season. Then there's second baseman Otto Lopez; SS Xavier Edwards; DH and (third baseman at the start of the season) Jonah Bride. There's also Opening Day DH and bench player otherwise third baseman Eric Wagaman.
The out field consists of LF Kyle Stowers, CF Derek Hill and RF (to start the season) Griffin Conine. The bench will include backup catcher Liam Hicks; utility player Javier Sanoja; corner infielder Graham Pauley and outfielder Dane Myers.
This isn't a very inspiring mix to say the least, and I can't predict the playoffs for this team. I still hope that these players will surprise us and do better than we currently expect.
