Miami Marlins rivals are already paying for their mistake

The Miami Marlins have not been spending as we wanted the team to. I was surprised at how little they spent on starting pitching, and their signing of injury-prone starting pitcher Frankie Montas. They did right the ship in their last big move, but overall their pitching has left a lot to be desired. There's now new issues on the way for the team.

I'm not happy when any player gets injured, and therefore wish that Frankie Montas returns as soon as possible. That said, I can't help but wonder why Steve Cohen couldn't have a better off-season than he actually had. Why didn't he sign an ace this off-season? The New York Mets had one major issue entering the off-season, and that hole was starting pitching.

It's honestly pretty embarrassing that they did so little, considering how much money they seemingly have to spend. The Miami Marlins barely spend, so not bringing any big names is sadly not surprising to us fans. The very rich Mets acting cheaply for lack of a better word, is definitely quite surprising.

The fact that the Mets had to have Frankie Montas as one of their big signings is quite frankly very bizarre. Montas has only been able to pitch over 100 innings three time sin his nine year career. That's remarkable honestly, as Montas just couldn't stay healthy at all. How could they expect him to stay healthy this season? Worse, it's not like he has ace potential.

In the 2024 season, Montas pitched to a disappointing 4.84 ERA/4.71 FIP, with 8.8 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9, in 30 games and 150.2 innings pitched. He did this for the Cincinnati Reds and the Milwaukee Brewers and was worth just 0.6 WAR. It's hard to see what the Mets were expecting him to do. He's now been shut down for six to eight weeks with a lat strain. This is sadly just the beginning of his next major injury in all likelihood.

The Miami Marlins may have better direction when it comes to pitching.
