We've been waiting for this since Spring Training first began... Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara is finally back from injury! We sadly know that this may be his final season for the team, but at least he's going to make it count. Last night on Opening Day, The Fish picked up an exciting 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was fun to watch and Sandy was back!

Sandy Alcantara is back on the mound for the Miami Marlins.

We've been waiting for this for months, but yesterday it finally happened. Sandy Alcantara returned to the mound for the Miami Marlins! I still remember his 2022 NL Cy Young winning campaign. That season, he pitched to a 2.28 ERA/2.99 FIP, with 8.1 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 32 games and 228.2 innings pitched. That was an amazing season that was rightly worth 8.0 WAR.

The 2023 season was the last time that we saw Sandy pitch before yesterday, and he pitched to a 4.14 ERA/4.03 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 28 games and 184.2 innings pitched. He was worth 3.9 WAR for that performance. He did pitch better in the second half, but overall it wasn't a good season, which was surprising considering how good he was the previous season. As it turned out he needed Tommy John Surgery.

Sandy Alcantara is back this season with a lot of questions about his future. Sadly, the expectation is that The Fish will trade him at the Trade Deadline. Will tat actually happen? Barring a surprise playoff run that does seem like the most likely result sadly. Of course, anything can and will actually happen, but a Sandy trade is the most likely result.

For now though, we have the Opening Day start in which Sandy was sharp but had some minor struggles. He pitched 4.2 innings, accumulated 7 strikeouts, gave up 2 runs and 4 walks. It was an up and down performance, but the stuff is there and his next start should be better. I'm hoping that things will keep going up for the Miami Marlins ace. Sandy's Beach is back.
