Miami Marlins will likely add veteran first baseman

The Miami Marlins will likely end up signing Anthony Rizzo this off-season.

Anthony Rizzo is still a free agent and he wasn't particularly good for the New York Yankees in the 2024 season. He batted just .228/.301/.335, with 8 home runs and 35 RBI in 92 games and 337 AB. He was worth just 0.2 WAR. The Bronx Bombers unsurprisingly declined to pick up his team option for the 2025 season.

Why should the Miami Marlins bother to sign him then? Well... the first base/DH mix could use another bat. Fan favorite Jake Burger has been traded and now that leaves room for another bat in the mix. A certain top prospect should be in the mix, but what if he struggles? It would make sense to have some veteran insurance for him. That insurance could be none other then the aforementioned Rizzo.

Anthony Rizzo is a veteran who has a career .261/.361/.467 batting line. He won the World Series with the Chicago Cubs in 2016 and has been in enough playoffs, where it's obvious that he has enough experience to help any team with his knowledge and mentorship for the young players. He should also be pretty cheap. That last statement is exactly what the Miami Marlins want to hear the most.

At this point, Anthony Rizzo should not cost more than 1 year and maybe $10 million. I don't really see him making much more than that. He's already 35 years old and is mostly in decline. I see him as a very likely signing for the Miami Marlins this off-season. He can always be flipped at the Trading Deadline if he actually does a good job during the season.
