This has not been a good season for the Miami Marlins so far. There's talk of managerial changes and off-season mistakes are becoming more clear. It might be too early to look ahead to the Trade Deadline, but with a 2-11 W-L record, it isn't looking very good going forward to say the least. So...who are the three most likely players to be traded? Who will help improve the struggling farm system?

Three Miami Marlins players are very likely to be traded by the Trade Deadline.

3. CP TANNER SCOTT

It's pretty obvious, but a free agent to be is always the likeliest player to be traded at the Trade Deadline. This is why Tanner Scott is immediately on the list. It's also not news that relief pitchers tend to especially be in demand at that time. It's unlikely to expect him to sign an extension with the team, so expecting him to be moved is almost a formality at this point.

Tanner Scott currently has an impressive 1.59 ERA with a poor 5.86 FIP. He also has a strong 9.5 K/9 and an abysmal 14.3 BB/9, in 5 games and 5.2 innings pitched. Small sample size, but Scott has typically had control issues throughout his career. He finally put it all together last season, when he led all relief pitchers in WAR with 3.6. He also had a 2.31 ERA/2.17 FIP, with 12.0 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9, in 74 games and 78.0 innings pitched.

Tanner Scott can bring back a good return if he has a strong ERA by the Trade Deadline.

2. 2B LUIS ARRAEZ

He was already the subject of trade rumors, as in he was in serious trade discussions this off-season along with SP Jesus Luzardo. I do not want Arraez to be traded, however it's hard not to see the writing on the wall. Arraez is a free agent after next season and there hasn't been any talk of him signing an extension with the Miami Marlins.

I'm not sure if there is any consideration for extending him, or even if it truly makes sense. Regardless of whether Bruce Sherman would be able to authorize it, Arraez is a difficult player to value. He's arguably the best pure hitter in the Major Leagues, but he also doesn't do much else. He's not a power hitter, he's not a threat on the base paths and he's not known for playing good defense. Would he be worth a $100 million extension? He may expect it.

Long-term, Luis Arraez is probably better off at first base, but his lack of power makes him an odd fit at the position. He can certainly bring back a strong return at this year's Trade Deadline however. This is why I strongly suspect that he'll be on the move this Summer.

NEXT: AN ACE ON THE MOVE...

1. SP JESUS LUZARDO

Starting pitching is probably the most in-demand position at the Trade Deadline. Contending teams are always looking for that extra addition to improve the rotation for the stretch run ad the playoffs. This can often have World Series winning ramifications. This is why SP Jesus Luzardo seems to be a very strong trade candidate. I already mentioned that he was in trade discussions last off-season.

Jesus Luzardo is a free agent after the 2026 season, which gives him enough team control to make him very valuable in a trade. The presence of Eury Perez, Sandy Alcantara and Max Meyer among others, does still keep the rotation as an area of "surplus", though you can also "never have enough pitching".

The biggest reason to trade Luzardo may simply be that the Miami Marlins are unlikely to sign him to an extension. He will almost certainly command an extension worth well over $100 million, and will all of the aforementioned names, I don't really see him getting that extension (assuming anyone will even get it). My guess is that The Fish will certainly shop Luzardo around.

Tanner Scott is a lock to be traded the way things are going. Luis Arraez is a strong possibility and Jesus Luzardo is very likely. The Miami Marlins could vastly improve the farm at the Trade Deadline, though I can't pretend to be happy about the team potentially losing Arraez and Luzardo.
