I wrote about what's been happening earlier this month. Last week in fact. The injury to future ace Eury Perez, is sadly another one in a list of pitching injuries for The Fish this Spring Training. We're still waiting for more updates to what we know, but we can make some assumptions as let's face it, most of us can't wait and wasnt to have some idea of what is going to happen.
What's going to happen with Miami Marlins starting pitcher Eury Perez?
We knew that Eury Perez has a fingernail injury and that the recovery rate can last anywhere from 7-10 days, to 4-6 months. I'm under the impression that the injury isn't as severe to cause the latter. Of course, it's no longer the fingernail that's causing us alarm. It's his elbow soreness. What could that mean?
I did a google search on elbow soreness to see what comes up as a result. They're talking about a "pitcher's elbow", that's basically too much stress and damage to the tendons and ligaments in the elbow. It seems that rest is the solution, though it's unclear how long the timeline for that is. The sad part is that in some cases it could lead to severe UCL damage. That of course means Tommy John Surgery.
Tommy John Surgery will be the worst case scenario, taking him out for the rest of this season and a part of 2025. Making things worse, it also cuts into his time on the active roster. This gives the Miami Marlins les control over him prior to his eventual free agency.
How long will he be out for? We can probably expect him to be out until mid-season or so for now, with the potential for longer than that if he requires TJS. That is of course not a very optimistic prognosis, but also just an educated guess based on some research. We will know for sure in the coming days, as the actual prognosis and treatment are publicly revealed. Hopefully he will be better as soon as possible and pitch for the Miami Marlins.
