Another Miami Marlins hitter drawing interest

There are reports that a certain OF will not be moved by Peter Bendix at the trade deadline. As trades are taking place, it's time to wonder if that player will be moved. I'm not talking about Jazz Chisholm Jr., I'm talking about LF/DH Bryan De La Cruz. The Pittsburgh Pirates have some interest in him apparently. Can they make an offer worth making to the Miami Marlins?

Another Miami Marlins OF is potentially switching teams this Summer.

I don't want the Miami Marlins to trade Bryan De La Cruz. He's too good this season. It's true that he only has a .241/.285/.410 batting line this season. It's also true that he only has a -0.2 WAR. His -0.9 dWAR is obviously not very optimistic, but he already has 17 home runs in 410 AB. He's likely to hit over 30 home runs this season, reaching a new career home run high. I'm very excited to see what his final results will be this season.

It's true that he doesn't walk much. He has a 5.5% walk rate this season. He strikes out a bit too much too, with a career high 26.0% rate so far this season. De La Cruz's 89.5 Exit Velocity isn't exciting to look at, but once again the power is there and the results are not terrible. He's already 27 years old, but isn't a free agent until after the 2027 season. There's still team control left and hopefully some upside as well.

Bryan De La Cruz isn't an elite OF, he isn't an elite bat and probably isn't necessarily this middle of the order power bat for the future. That said, he has great power and he is still relatively young enough to improve a bit more. He's making $768,000 this season and his arbitration raise for next season shouldn't be that high.

If the Miami Marlins are to trade Bryan De La Cruz to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the return needs to be truly worth it. Pittsburgh will definitely need to overpay in prospects in order to make the trade happen at the trade deadline.

Miami Marlins trade piece might not.... dark. Next. Miami Marlins trade piece might not...
