The Trade Deadline is coming up and trade rumors are circulating around Miami Marlins players. In fact, just yesterday it seemed that The Fish were a lock to trade CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. Reports are now flipping the other way. This report also covers fellow OF's LF/DH Bryan De La Cruz and RF Jesus Sanchez. Let's take a good look at what we now know....
The Miami Marlins may not be trading the team's OF's.
CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not a free agent until after the 2026 season. We don't know what his contract expectations are, we also don't know just how smart it is to extend someone who is yet to even play a full season due to injuries. He does have tantalizing upside however, so my preference would be to extend him. That said, we again still don't know what he wants. He might want too much, or maybe he wants to test free agency.
It's clear however that according to the latest reports Peter Bendix isn't looking to trade him. This is of course contrary to earlier reports stating the opposite. My guess is that he's listening on him, but would have to be blown away with an offer before committing to a trade.
The report also states that the Miami Marlins are not looking to move Bryan De La Cruz and Jesus Sanchez. De La Cruz is a free agent after the 2027 season, Sanchez is a free agent under the same timeline. De La Cruz is batting .241/.291/.412, with 15 home runs and 43 RBI in 90 games and 357 AB (as of July 10). He clearly has power, but not that much else to be honest.
Jesus Sanchez is batting .240/.291/.407, with 10 home runs and 34 RBI in 82 games and 258 AB. He has a very exciting 93.3 EV and could have more to offer. I definitely prefer giving him and De La Cruz more time to develop. It makes perfect sense for the Miami Marlins to hold on to both for the time being. These are good news.
