Former Marlins relief pitcher was quietly traded on Tuesday
A pretty surprising trade went down a bit quietly on Tuesday. It flew under the radar as it wasn't as important as a trade involving an actual Miami Marlins pitcher. It was however similar to this other trade. The Fish's division rivals the Washington Nationals traded relief pitcher Dylan Floro to the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was interesting considering Floro used to pitch for The Fish.
A former Miami Marlins relief pitcher was moved on Tuesday.
Do you still doubt that Peter Bendix knows what he's doing? The flurry of trades at the Trade Deadline surely raised his stock on Miami Marlins X! A former Marlins relief pitcher was moved on Tuesday as well. Dylan Floro actually pitched for a division rival team in Washington this season, the intent of this was to rebuild his value, which is exactly what he's done.
Dylan Floro has been worth 1.6 WAR this season. He currently has a 2.06 ERA/2.62 FIP, with 6.9 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 in 51 games and 52.1 innings pitched. This is a stunning turn-around for a reliever who pitched for The Fish from 2021 to 2023. In 2021, he delivered an impressive 2.81 ERA/2.81 FIP, with 8.7 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 68 games and 64.0 innings pitched. He added 15 saves getting time as the team's closer as well.
2022 saw Dylan Floro deliver a 3.02 ERA/3.13 FIP, with 8.0 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 56 games and 53.2 innings pitched. He had accumulated 10 saves at this point. Unfortunately for Floro, 2023 saw him deliver a 4.54 ERA/2.75 FIP, with 9.3 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 43 games and 39.2 innings pitched. More teams surely should've taken a shot at him in the off-season. Minor League 3B Andres Chaparro is going back in return and he isn't particularly highly rated. It seems as if Washington should've received more in return, so I see it as a steal for Arizona.
Dylan Floro will be reuniting with another former Miami Marlins relief pitcher in A.J. Puk. He was recently shipped to Arizona by The Fish. This will be an interesting reunion.
