The Miami Marlins are currently sitting at 10-9 and are in third place in the NL East. Last night The Fish lost 5-2 to the San Francisco Giants, but still won the series. There were some worrying developments from that game besides the loss however. As things stand, The Fish haven't lost a series since playing the New York Mets, and won't even play them again until September. Let's take a look at what's new with our beloved team!

The Miami Marlins won another series!

The Fish started the home series off with a 4-3 win on Monday. The big story here was a great performance from CF Jazz Chisholm Jr., who went 2-4 with and RBI. He was slumping prior to this game. DH Jorge Soler hit a home run off of the bench, as he has been getting back on track this season as well. It was definitely a great series opener for the Miami Marlins.

Things continued well in game two which the Miami Marlins won 4-2. Jorge Soler continued his potentially big season with a 3-4 effort in the game. I can go on about Soler's turnaround during this series, but we have already written about it. Starting Pitcher Edward Cabrera finally bounced back from his poor start as well, going for 6 innings and giving up 2 runs, while racking up 8 strikeouts. Cabrera getting his control problems fixed will go a long way in establishing him as a dominant starter in the Major Leagues.

Another big story for the Miami Marlins, has been the breakout of A.J. Puk into a shutdown closer. He has become the best option in the ninth inning, and will hopefully continue his recent streak of dominance going forward. He picked up a pair of saves in the aforementioned two wins. It's very important for The Fish to continue having a dominant shutdown bullpen.

The "goat" (and I don't mean greatest of all time) of the series is Devin Smeltzer. Smeltzer gave up two home runs (three runs overall), and took the loss in the series finale. Here's hoping that he's designated for assignment sooner rather than later.
