Miami Marlins CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a superstar. I made my opinion on him very clear in the recent past. As The Fish are dealing with multiple injuries, it's especially important for him to step up, and luckily that's exactly what he has been doing so far. Jazz is batting .300 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI over the last 2 weeks. He's now working on improving an old issue...

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is working on hitting lefties.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. was struggling to hit lefties in the past. He batted .260/.321/.486 against righties throughout his career, but only .207/.253/.359 against lefties. This is obviously a serious issue, and has led to him being benched when the team was facing left-handed starting pitchers. New manager Skip Schumaker has been giving him chances however.

Schumaker is very high on Jazz, and while hoping for better durability is looking for him to carry the offense. He believes that he's the type of player who can make a big difference down the stretch. He's also very positive about his stance changes to be a better and more consistent hitter. The quotes can be found here. Jazz does have the talent to be an MVP contender if he puts everything together.

Jazz said that he's been practicing hitting lefties for two weeks now. He said:

"Skip came to me one day and he was like, 'You're not bad against lefties. You've just got to work on it.' I don't really strike out against lefties. I just roll over a lot and hit a lot of ground balls right at the infielders. We've just been working on it for like two weeks straight."

The fact that Jazz is making an effort to improve is highly admirable. He wants to be a complete player, who isn't a liability to the team when facing a lefty pitcher. He even watched footage of all of his at-bats against lefties! That's some impressive and admirable dedication to his craft! I have no doubt in my mind that Jazz Chisholm Jr. will become an effective lefty masher.
