Marlins division rival could win the NL MVP award
The Miami Marlins recently made some roster moves to shake up the roster, with some players trying to become core pieces in the near future. With no other major news regarding The Fish, let's take a look at an increasingly intriguing situation involving the division rival New York Mets. Could Mets SS Francisco Lindor win the NL MVP award?
Marlins division rivals could have a NL MVP on their team.
It's safe to say that no member of the Miami Marlins will win the NL MVP award this season. The division rival New York Mets however may have one. The Mets are trying hard to get the final NL Wild Card spot. If they beat out the Atlanta Braves for it, there's definitely a chance that Lindor will win the award.
Francisco Lindor is currently batting .269/.339/.487, with 27 home runs and 78 RBI in 131 games and 536 AB. He also has 25 stolen bases and is worth 5.8 WAR. He does have some serious competition for the award. One such competitor is a genersational player. Something that as good as Lindor is, he's clearly not. I'm of course talking about the NL West leading Los Angeles Dodgers DH Shohei Ohtani.
Shohei Ohtani is currently batting .292/.378/.615, with 41 home runs and 94 RBI in 128 games and 507 AB. He also has an incredible 40 stolen bases and is worth 6.6 WAR. It's pretty clear that Ohtani is better than Lindor, but if LA miss out on the division and the Mets win the NL East...Lindor might have a case.
There's one more candidate for the NL MVP award however. That candidate is none other than Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte. Marte is batting .298/.370/.560, with 30 home runs and 81 RBI in 116 games and 436 AB. He's worth 6.0 WAR. With Arizona's run to the top of the NL Wild Card standings and even having a shot at the NL West, a final push can win him the award.
At the end of the day, it's pretty clear that Shohei Ohtani is the best of the three players. He will most likely deservedly win the NL MVP award, but there's a chance for the others. I know that in the future there will be a Miami Marlins player in the NL MVP race.
