These have been trying times for The Fish, but there are some bright spots. Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has been nominated for a prestigious award. It's a great honor and the award in question is of course the Roberto Clemente award. Luzardo has been honored by that and had some interesting words to say. Looking at what Luzardo has done for the community is truly amazing.
Jesus Luzardo has been a great philanthropist with the Miami Marlins.
Jesus Luzardo has not been having a good season for the Miami Marlins. Due to injury, he pitched to a 5.00 ERA/4.27 FIP, with 7.8 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 12 games and 66.2 innings pitched. He's been worth 0.9 WAR this season. While the season may have been forgettable, he's done a ton for the community.
Luzardohas been working to help the community throughout the entire year. The pitcher doesn't ever take days off with giving back! He works with both the Miami Marlins Foundation and his own Jesus Luzardo Family Foundation. By the way, don't forget to vote for him for the award right here.
Luzardo had this to say:
"I think it means a lot to me personally because of the community involvement, and I think that's something I take a lot of pride in, and just trying to do right. I'm not perfect, I'm not a saint or anything that, but I do think that my parents raised me to try to help out any way I can in areas where maybe people are in need, or people can't help themselves, or even if it's just lending them a word of encouragement -- whatever it might be. This award embodies that, and it's something I take a lot of pride in.”
I really hope that MLB will award the Roberto Clemente award to Jesus Luzardo. I can't think of another player that deserves the award more. He's done so much work for our community that it's time to give back to him and show him our appreciation. Thank you Jesus Luzardo!
