Marlins pitchers showing off so far this spring
The Marlins pitching is again showing its muscle
After 3 Spring Training games the Marlins have had a very solid pitching showing for their top pitchers. Jesus Luzardo and Eury Perez have pitched well so far and that shows promise for the season. The Marlins have also had a few more standout pitching performances from players who could challenge for a roster spot this spring.
The Marlins pitching staff continues to be a strength
The Marlins young phenom Eury Perez started the game Monday versus the Cardinals and had a solid performance. In 1.2 inning Perez threw 38 pitches, 26 for strikes and allowed 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 3. Perez filled up the zone and more impressive, he worked through the heart of the Cardinals lineup and struck out Carlson and Gorman. Perez hit 99 on pitches including the strikeout of Carlson.
Newcomers to the Marlins, including Roddery Munoz and Elvis Alvarado had great appearances on Monday. Munoz threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Alvarado had a flawless inning with one strikeout and no hits allowed.
Sunday the Marlins faced the Washington Nationals and again their starting pitching was excellent. 2024 ace Jesus Luzardo took the mound for the first two innings and had a great showing. Luzardo gave up no hits, no walks, and struck out three in two innings. He threw 23 total pitches and 17 of them were strikes. Marlins fans are glad to see Luzardo out there pitching and that he wasn't traded in the off-season, despite several rumors.
Marlins 2023 minor league pitcher of the year and 2023 futures game invitee Patrick Monteverde also had an amazing showing in his first action of the spring. Monteverde dished out two flawless innings on Sunday throwing 31 pitches, 21 for strikes. Monteverde also gave up no hits or walks and struck out three over his two innings of work. The Marlins hope to continue their pitching prowess this week with A.J. Puk starting on Tuesday.
