Miami Marlins make a couple of roster moves
The Miami Marlins have been finding some hidden gems and potentially benefitting from recent trades. With the season winding down, there's not much left to do. Sadly, The Fish aren't going to the playoffs and even a huge winning streak won't be changing that. On the positive side, we can see who the team's next foundational blocks will be. We can also see if any minor move will make a difference. Well...a couple just took place. More than a couple actually but we'll get there.
One player goes in and one player goes out for the Marlins
Right-handed relief pitcher Shaun Anderson has been designated for assignment. He gave The Fish a 10.97 ERA/5.99 FIP, with 5.1 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 in 3 games and 10.2 innings pitched. The 29 year old has a career 6.19 ERA/5.01 FIP since 2019 with multiple different teams.
On the other side of things, the Miami Marlins claimed RHP Xzavion Curry off of waivers from the Cleveland Guardians. The 25 year old has a career 4.53 ERA/4.75 FIP, with 5.9 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9. This season he pitched for the Cleveland Guardians, and delivered a 5.84 ERA/5.20 FIP, with 5.5 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 in 7 games and 24.2 innings pitched. I'm not very optimistic about him.
The Fish designated right-handed pitcher Kyle Tyler for assignment. Tyler has a 5.40 ERA/5.04 FIP, with 7.1 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 8 games and 31.2 innings pitched this season. He's 27 years old. I'm not surprised he's done.
The Marlins then designated two right-handed relief pitchers for assignment. Who? Darren McCaughan and Emmanuel Ramirez. Darren only appeared in 3 games, delivering an 8.38 ERA/7.31 FIP, with 6.5 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 3 games and 9.2 innings pitched. Ramirez pitched in 12 games and 16.1 innings pitched, delivering a 4.96 ERA/4.28 FIP, with 8.8 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9. Not sure why the latter couldn't just bet kept on the Major League roster.
Going back up is left-handed relief pitcher Kent Emanuel. Emanuel delivered a 6.75 ERA/7.68 FIP, with 5.8 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 5 games and 9.1 innings pitched. Right-handed relief pitcher Brett De Geus is back as well. Back in the Majors that is. Making his Marlins debut, he had a 2.70 ERA/3.78 FIP, with 5.4 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 in 4 games and 3.1 innings pitched with the Seattle Mariners earlier this season.
FINALLY, right-handed relief pitcher John McMillon will be making his debut with the Miami Marlins as well. He last pitched in 2023 with the Kansas City Royals, delivering a 2.25 ERA/2.51 FIP, with 18.0 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 in 4 games and 4.0 innings pitched.
