You may remember that the Miami Marlins recently made some roster moves mostly due to injuries. These moves even affected The Fish's rotation going forward. It appears that this wasn't the end of those moves. More moves have now been announced, and hopefully will help the team as we finish up the season. The playoff race is close and every game matters. Small moves might make all of the difference at the end of the day.

The Miami Marlins make more roster moves for the stretch run.

Relief pitcher Devin Smeltzer is once again leaving the Major League team. He has been designated for assignment and for good reason. Smeltzer has a 6.45 ERA/6.98 FIP, with 6.4 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 in 9 games and 22.1 innings pitched. He's been worth -0.3 WAR for this atrocious performance. It would probbaly be for the best if he's not called back up to the Majors this season. That is probably the most likely outcome for the rest of the season.

There's not much optimism for Devin Smeltzer to improve either. Well, maybe a little. He has a career 3.99 ERA/4.82 FIP, with 6.2 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 34 games and 140.0 innings pitched. It's definitely possible that he could've been a bit better, but certainly not as a lights-out late inning bullpen arm. I should point out that prior to this season, he spent his entire career with the Minnesota Twins (2019-2022).

So who is replacing Devin Smeltzer on the Major League team? Left handed relief pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus. De Jesus will actually be making his Major League debut. The 26 year old has a 4.86 ERA in A and AAA this season in 18 games and 87.0 innings pitched. He also has 6.9 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9. That's not very promising to say the least. In fact, I'm not sure why Kim Ng missed out on the waiver wire. It's obvious that the Miami Marlins need better relief pitchers, if this is the best that the team can do right now.

I'm definitely concerned about the Miami Marlins bullpen, but am hopeful for Enmanuel De Jesus will do better than Devin Smeltzer.
