It's ironic that I just wrote about Miami Marlins OF Avisail Garcia not being worth rostering. We now have more news about Avi. The Fish are trying hard to make the playoffs this season, and the schedule is not looking very good going forward. These are tough times for the team, and the injuries aren't making things any easier.
The Miami Marlins lost Avisail Garcia to injury...again.
Avisail Garcia has been a bust for the Miami Marlins since signing with the team prior to last season. Garcia batted .271/.324/.422, with 98 home runs and 389 RBI in 816 games and 2973 AB from 2012-2020. During that time period, he played for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers. 2021 was his platform year, and he played for the Milwaukee Brewers that season. He batted .262/.330/.490 with 29 home runs and 86 RBI in 135 games and 461 AB.
Things went downhill fast as soon as Avi signed with the Miami Marlins. He batted .224/.266/.317 with 8 home runs and 35 RBI, in 98 games and 357 AB. This season, he's currently batting .185/.241/.315 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI in 37 games and 108 AB. 2021 seems like it was a major outlier in Avisail Garcia's career. He's going on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.
Another player going on the injured list is struggling spot starter Ryan Weathers. He has a -1.2 WAR this season. So far this season, he has a 7.32 ERA/6.39 FIP, with 6.6 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 14 games and 51.2 innings pitched. He pitched for the San Diego Padres prior to getting traded to The Fish. Weathers has been optioned to AAA. Right handed relief pitcher Tommy Nance is reinstated from the 60-day IL. Nance has a 4.33 ERA/3.71 FIP, with 11.7 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 in 35 games and 43.2 innings pitched.
Another player called up to the Miami Marlins Major League roster is utilityman Garrett Hampson. Hampson has batted .275/.346/.384, with a home run and 12 RBI in 68 games and 138 AB. He has speed and gets on base, so hopefully he'll help the lineup.
