Miami Marlins: MLB mock draft
Who will Kim Ng draft for the Miami Marlins in the upcoming MLB draft? MLB.com has an idea about that. This isn't the first mock draft that I wrote about this year. This one is the latest version, and hopefully the draft (the real version) goes well for The Fish. Improving the farm system is key to continuing to win in subsequent years.
The Miami Marlins have the tenth pick in the MLB draft this year.
I'm only going to focus on the first round, as does MLB.com. The Pittsburgh Pirates have the first pick and are projected to select OF Dylan Crews. This is due to them having the largest bonus pool and a ptential willingness to spend it in a major way. Crews is the #1 rated draft prospect at the moment.
The number one rated draft prospect is RHP Paul Skenes, who is projected to go second to the Washington Nationals. They're supposedly enamored with him, and would only avoid taking him if Pittsburgh picks him instead. They are then projected to select Crews. The Detroit Tigers pick third and are projected to select the #3 draft prospect OF Wyatt Langford. Langford is from Florida, but sadly is extremely unlikely to last until the Miami Marlins' pick.
The Texas Rangers pick fourth and are projected to select OF Walker Jenkins. Jenkins is also rated fourth among prospects, so this is a pretty straightforward projection. The Minnesota Twins pick fifth and are projected to select....you guessed it the #5 draft prospect OF Max Clark. Interestingly, it's said that they might take one of multiple other choices.
The Oakland Athletics pick sixth and are projected to select 3B Brayden Taylor. Taylor happens to be the #15 draft prospect, so this is a pretty wild projection. Oakland are expected to try and save money so will likely avoid a high-priced pick. The Cincinnati Reds pick seventh and are projected to select #6 draft prospect RHP Rhett Lowder. He's a college arm and that's what they're looking for.
The Kansas City Royals pick eighth and are projected to select draft prospect #14 C Blake Mitchell. Apparently they've been linked to him in the past. The Colorado Rockies pick ninth and are projected to select #9 draft prospect RHP Chase Dollander. Colorado is looking for arms and he was a #2 draft prospect earlier this year. They think that they can fix him and pay below slot value.
The Miami Marlins pick tenth and are projected to select #8 draft prospect RHP Noble Meyer. The argument is that The Fish are better at developing pitchers than hitters. I disagree, Kim Ng will be picking a hitter. You can read about the other picks on MLB.com. so I'll just add the projected supplemental pick for The Fish. That's supposed to be SS/3B George Lombard Jr. I can see that.
