Miami Marlins notes: A prospect call-up and De La Cruz news
The Fish called up a prospect and Bryan De La Cruz has some big news
This is an interesting season for the Miami Marlins so far. Peter Bendix spoke about it recently and it was...definitely thought provoking. As we wait for some starting pitchers to improve, there are some notes on the team. One of them is a prospect call-up and another is positive personal news for The Fish's LF Bryan De La Cruz.
The Miami Marlins call up a new prospect and some news on Bryan De La Cruz.
Let's start with some prospect news...the Miami Marlins called up RHP Roddery Munoz for a start in a doubleheader tomorrow. Munoz has not pitched in the Majors so far. The 24 year old right-handed pitcher has a surprisingly bad 10.47 ERA, with 5.9 K/9 and 10.1 BB/9 in AAA Jacksonville this season. I'm not sure why he's the one called up, but he does have a career 9.8 K/9 and 4.9 BB/9. He also has a career 5.23 ERA.
Roddery Munoz is only called up to start a game tomorrow. He's moved around quite a bit. He started his career with the Atlanta Braves, but moved on to the Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates and finally the Miami Marlins. He actually moved on to the latter three teams, over the course of less than a year, since July last year.
Munoz doesn't look particularly good to me, so I'm tempted to say that his start will likely be poor. I guess it's worth giving him a shot, but I find it as more of a throw away start, considering he's shown no reason to believe that he's ready for the Major Leagues.
Moving on to Bryan De La Cruz, the slugger is potentially having a breakout season. He's currently batting .288/.296/.450, but more importantly .333 with 2 home runs and 9 RBI over the last two weeks. Hopefully he can keep this up, as The Fish badly need good bats.
There are bigger news in Bryan's life however.... he's engaged! We here at Marlin Maniac wish him and his fiance' a happy future and a memorable wedding (if that's their plan). Here's to hoping that he keeps his hitting streaks going.
