It seems that the Miami Marlins can already have next season's lineup better planned out. At the same time, some pitchers are having a tough time getting themselves set up as rotation stalwarts going forward. While all of this is going on, The Fish have been shuffling the roster around. More changes have now been made. Let's see what went down today.
More roster moves made by the Miami Marlins.
Roster moves don't seem to end for the Miami Marlins. The team is shuffling things around, seeing who can stick on the roster and who may not. Injuries are of course affecting the situation as well. The latest transactions involve multiple relief pitchers.
Lefty relief pitcher Jonathan Bermudez hasn't been good at all in his small sample size this season. He has an 8.10 ERA/7.68 FIP, with just 5.4 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 in 3 games and 6.2 innings pitched. The 28 year old might never be a major piece of the team's bullpen and won't be missed. He's been designated for assignment to make room for fellow relief pitcher Jeff Lindgren. He last pitched last season, and did so to a 5.14 ERA/4.68 FIP, with a bizarre 1.3 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 3 games and 7.0 innings pitched.
Righty relief pitcher John McMillon is going on the 15-day IL with tightness in his right elbow. He pitched to a 1.50 ERA/3.34 FIP, with 9.8 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 in 10 games and 12.0 innings pitched. Those are very good results and I hope that he recovers and returns as fast as possible. The 26 year old is certainly looking very interesting for next season. Righty relief pitcher Michael Petersen will be taking his spot in the Majors in the meantime.
Michael Peterson was terrible for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. He pitched to a 6.43 ERA/6.32 FIP, with 7.1 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 11 games and 14.0 innings pitched. He did much better in the Minor Leagues, with a 1.64 ERA and 12.0 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 in AAA. I'm not sure what we can expect from the 30 year old.
DFA'd righty reliever Brett De Geus has been claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays. De Geus pitched to a 6.35 ERA/3.35 FIP, with 6.4 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 7 games and 5.2 innings pitched. The 26 year old probably won't be missed by the Miami Marlins.
