Miami Marlins place key starting pitcher on the 15-day IL
Ryan Weathers is going on the IL
I recently wrote about Miami Marlins SP Ryan Weathers being a great representative for the team at the All-Star Game. Sadly. I'm not sure how likely that is to happen now. The Fish went from some good news, to the subject of this article. Weathers has been placed on the 15-day IL due to a strain in his left index finger.
Miami Marlins injury news are hitting us hard this year.
I don't believe in curses, but it almost feels like one for the Miami Marlins. Just look at how many starting pitchers have been injured this year. Ace Sandy Alcantara is out for the season, Eury Perez is out for the season as well. Braxton Garrett and Jesus Luzardo spent some time on the injured list as well. Now Ryan Weathers is on the list as well.
Weathers suffered the injury during The Fish's win over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Weathers felt numbness in his finger and manager Skip Schumaker decided not to take any risks. He said:
“just said he couldn’t feel the ball anymore with his left index finger, so once I heard that, that was enough.”
It's a good thing that Skip took the precaution, as Weathers was also not pitching well. I hope that the injury isn't more serious than this. In other words that it's not a nerve issue. If it is, he might need more time off, which is certainly a damaging blow to the team. At this point, I'm just hoping that he gets better as soon as possible.
Ryan Weathers has a 3.55 ERA/3.90, with 8.5 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9, in 13 games and 71.0 innings pitched. His replacement Roddery Munoz has been terrible sadly in his start on Saturday night, but will hopefully do better in his start. In the meantime, the Miami Marlins are going to be without Ryan Weathers for at least 15 days.
Let's hope that Weathers is back healthy and that the Miami Marlins will be able to avoid further injuries going forward. We'll look back into this issue in a couple weeks...
