Miami Marlins put a player on the IL
The Miami Marlins announced a pair of roster moves today. Take a look at some upcoming draft options for The Fish and what can be done about a certain third baseman. Speaking of that certain third baseman, he's in the news today. In fact this article has a lot to do with the disappointing Jean Segura. Let's take a look at what's happening with him and other transactional news today...
The Miami Marlins places Jean Segura on the 10-day injured list.
Jean Segura has been a complete disaster for the Miami Marlins this season. It's hard to actually believe that, but the career.281/.328/.402 hitter just can't do it this season. The once elite contact hitter is unable to hit for some reason. He's currently batting .190/.259/.234 with 1 home run and 11 RBI in 60 games and 225 AB. Will he bounce back? The .224 BABIP that he currently has sems to imply that. Still, not every player bounces back and some keep low BABIPS...and bad luck the entire length of the season.
Jean Segura has a left hamstring strain, and so is now placed on the 10-day injured list. It doesn't seem as if he will be out for long, but one never knows with injuries such as this. Will the time off help Segura rest and potentially get his head back in the game? I surely hope so! He was one of those signings that seemingly couldn't disappoint, yet he now looks like one of the worst signings in team history. It doesn't help matters that he has atrocious defense this season as well. He's never started at third base full-time before, so this could be part of the problem.
So who is Jean Segura's replacement at third base? Who has been called up to take his place on the Major League roster? The answer for the first question is a mixing and matching of players. The answer for the second question is SS prospect Jacob Amaya. Do you remember him by the way? The defense first SS will likely play SS, allowing Joey Wendle to spend more time at third base. He can potentially stick on the roster after Segura is back, with someone else getting demoted instead.
