It's arbitration time this off-season! As reports are coming out about the Miami Marlins potentially making or not making certain trades, and as the team is making historic hires, there was also a need to decid these arbitration cases... Who was paid what and which cases will go to the arbitration panel?

The Miami Marlins have to settle some arbitration cases....

As a reminder, after roughly two seasons, a player and the team have to agree on a salary for the following season. This goes on for roughly four seasons, until the player is eligible for free agency. If the player and team can't agree on a salary, they go to an arbitration panel. Those panels can lead to bad blood between player and team, so it's usually better to avoid them.

Let's begin with resolved cases...RP JT Chargois agreed on a $1.285 million salary. Chargois had a 3.61 ERA/3.80 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9, in 46 games and 42.1 innings pitched. That's a pretty good salary. New C Christian Bethancourt received a $2.05 million salary. He batted .225/.254/.381, with 11 home runs and 33 RBI, in 104 games and 315 AB in 2023 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Another fair deal.

RP Anthony Bender made an undisclosed sum. He had a 3.26 ERA/4.77 FIP, with 7.9 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 22 games and 19.1 innings pitched. RF Jesus Sanchez made $2.1 million, after batting .253/.327/.450 in 2023. He did this in 125 games and 360 AB, with 14 home runs and 52 RBI. Another good price. RP Steven Okert will make a fair $1.0625 in 2024. He had a 4.45 ERA/4.09 FIP, with 11.2 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9, in 64 games and 58.2 innings pitched.

RP A.J. Puk will make $1.8 million in 2024. He had a 3.97 ERA/3.59 FIP, with 12.4 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9, in 58 games and 56.2 innings pitched. Another solid deal, despite some of his struggles in 2023. SP Jesús Luzardo will make $5.5 million. He had a 3.58 ERA/3.55 FIP, with 10.5 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9, in 32 games and 178.2 innings pitched. It's technically a bargain price for him in this market.

SP Trevor Rogers will make a bargain $1.53 million. He had a 4.00 ERA/4.09 FIP, with 9.5 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9, in 4 games and 18.0 innings pitched. He had a 2.64 ERA/2.55 FIP in 25 games and 133.0 innings pitched in 2021. I have a lot of hope for a healthy Rogers. CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. did not reach agreement with the team, after a .250/.304/.457 bating line, with 19 home runs and 51 RBI, in 97 games and 351 AB.

Two other players who didn't agree on contracts are CP Tanner Scott and 2B Luis Arráez. Luis batted .354/.393/.469, with 10 home runs and 69 RBI, in 147 games and 574 AB. Scott had a 2.31 ERA/2.17 FIP, with 12.0 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9, in 74 games and 78.0 innings pitched. He also had 12 saves.
