Miami Marlins rotation is in shambles with the injuries
Braxton Garrett is joining Jesus Luzardo and others on the IL
What a season for the Miami Marlins! An almost certain bottom of the division finish. These starting pitching injuries however are insane. It started with ace Sandy Alcantara being out for the season, it was followed by Eury Perez needing season-ending surgery too. Then it soon turned into some type of a tragic game of dominoes, with one injury after another. Now we have the latest injury.
Injuries keep piling up for the Miami Marlins this season.
Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez were the first casualties. The next on the list have been breakout starting pitcher Ryan Weathers and soon after Jesus Luzardo. Now we get yet another injury, this one to Braxton Garrett. Garrett has an alarming sounding forearm flexor strain. This makes me wonder if the conditioning staff on The Fish needs to be taken a look at. It's certainly not normal when the ENTIRE pitching rotation is out with injuries.
What's happening with Garrett going forward? Well for now we have to wait and see. It's unclear just how serious his injury is, but nothing has been said about him needing surgery or anything like that. This should hopefully mean that rehab and rest is what he needs to ultimately get back on the mound later this season.
Braxton Garrett wasn't a key member of the rotation until last season. That's when he broke out with a 3.66 ERA/3.68 FIP, with 8.8 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 in 31 games and 159.2 innings pitched. This season he still has similar marks of 8.3 K/9 and 1.0 BB/9. He however also has an abysmal 5.35 ERA, with a much better 3.79 FIP, in 7 games and 37.0 innings pitched.
It seems clear to me that the Braxton Garrett from last season still exists. When healthy he should get back to that production. The question is when will he be healthy? We won't have an answer to that question until later in the season. My only hope now is for Garrett to get better and be back to his old self as soon as it is possible.
