The 2025 Miami Marlins lineup is more clear now
The core of the next contending Miami Marlins team is becoming more clear. The Fish are tinkering with the roster, making call-ups and clearly focusing on the future. This is all positive and we can start making logical assumptions about the future, namely the 2025 season. How will the lineup look? Which positions are set and which will need to be filled in the off-season?
The Miami Marlins lineup for 2025 is clearer now.
Let's start with catcher. It should be obvious, but Nick Fortes has to go. He's been pretty bad throughout his time on the team and an upgrade is badly needed. I fully expect a replacement to come via trade or free agency. It won't be a big name, but just an upgrade would be good enough.
First base is set with Jake Burger and Jonah Bride. Bride has definitely not been expected to be this good this season, but even if he won't keep his starting job, Burger is almost certainly going to be the first baseman next season. Second base seems set with Otto Lopez, who is a good defender, but isn't particularly great with the bat. Since Connor Norby had to switch from second base to third base, it seems that Lopez is supposed to be the long-term answer at the position.
Speaking of Norby, he's been red hot since his debut and for now is definitely set at third base for next season. The OF is interesting to look at. RF is set with Jesus Sanchez, who hopefully will have a breakout season in 2025. LF and CF are definitely question marks. Kyle Stowers hasn't been impressive in LF so far and Derek Hill is still a work in progress in CF. It's too early to tell if either will work out, but I definitely expect the team to be looking for upgrades in the off-season, barring a good ending to the season for either of them.
Designated Hitter is likely to be a rotation, rather than having one set player. That seems to be what the Miami Marlins prefer at this time. Overall, the OF and catcher stand out as positions of need, but the rest of the 2025 lineup seems already set.
