Update on injured Miami Marlins starting pitcher will make you relieved
Jesus Luzardo isn't going to miss the rest of the season
This disaster Miami Marlins season was permeated with injuries to starting pitchers. Take your pick and the starting pitcher is likely injured. Those injuries even extended to recent Cy Young winners and future award contenders. You can build a playoff rotation with just all of the injured arms... Braxton Garrett, Sandy Alcantara, Eury Perez and of course Jesus Luzardo. Wwe have more news on the latter now..
Jesus Luzardo should pitch for the Miami Marlins again this season.
So what is Jesus Luzardo's injury? It was recently revealed to be a mild left flexor muscle strain. This means that he could be back before the All-Star Break. This is excellent news, as when reports of the injury first came out, it seemed that it could be anything. Tommy John Surgery was one of the obvious fears that the fans had.
Injury does seem to explain why Luzardo's season was so bad up to this point. He produced a 3.58 EA/3.55 FIP, with 10.5 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 32 games and 178.2 innings pitched. This season however, he has an abysmal 6.58 ERA/5.08 FIP, with 9.3 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 5 games and 26.0 innings pitched. He was worth 4.0 WAR last season, but is worth just -0.1 WAR this season. He's basically been an entirely different pitcher this season. Luzardo's struggles played a major part in The Fish's immensely poor play this season.
It's good to know that Jesus Luzardo will not be gone for the whole season. Part of this, is the increasing possibility that the Miami Marlins will be having a sell-off at the Trade Deadline. Luzardo, despite not being a free agent at the end of the season, but due to having only two more years of team control left, was expected to be one of the potential trade candidates.
It will be interesting to see how Jesus Luzardo will do once he comes back. Will he pitch like he did last season? Will he still pitch poorly? Will he take things to another level? The main thing is that he's not seriously injured and can help the Miami Marlins.
