The Miami Marlins are attempting to make the playoffs this season, yet the last few weeks have been filled with injury news. The worst of the injury news is of course the status of team ace Sandy Alcantara. The ace is currently in danger of requiring Tommy John Surgery, after being shut down for the season with a UCL injury. We now have an update on that dilemma.
Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara might require Tommy John Surgery.
Miami Marlins fans are in a collective worry about the outcome of Sandy's injury situation. Will rest have him healthy for next season? Will it only prolong his recovery, as he'll still need Tommy John Surgery? Will he get Tommy John Surgery now? There are a ton of questions surrounding the 2022 National League Cy Young award winner, who just hasn't been the same this season.
Sandy Alcantara is a true teammate and competitor as his priority is helping the team. So much so that he even attempted a comeback this season, before experiencing soreness that led to the team shutting him down for the season. He had this to say:
"Very frustrating for me. A guy like me who always likes to compete -- I feel sorry for all the fans, my family, my son, my friends, for the city -- because I'm not going to be out there this year. Hopefully I've got to be ready for next year. I don't know, so I've just got to be positive."
It's obvious that Sandy just wants to go out there and pitch. He wants to help bring a third World Series championship to Miami, but he will sadly not get the opportunity to do so this season. It's sad to see him have to watch the playoff push from the sidelines. Will he need surgery though? He said the following:
"I don't know. I can't say yes, I can't say no, so I've just got to keep positive and just talk then and see what they say."
Sandy Alcantara will sit down with his agent Adriel Reyes, Skip Schumaker and Kim Ng and discuss this in the off-season. There will be more anxious wait for the fanbase as we await the outcome.
