Power hitting off-season trade target for the Marlins

There are rumors of some off-season targets for the Miami Marlins and some good news about the upcoming MLB Draft. The Fish are already looking ahead, and I'm sure that the off-season will be filled with rumors about potential targets for the team. One target hasn't been rumored (yet at least), but he makes a lot of sense. I'm talking about St. Louis Cardinals 2B/3B Nolan Gorman.

Nolan Gorman could be an interesting target for the Miami Marlins.

The Miami Marlins need more power in the lineup. Offense in general is a main priority and should certainly be treated as such in the off-season. Peter Bendix should definitely look at all of the options to improve the team. One of the obvious options is a certain St. Louis Cardinals hitter who was recently demoted to the Minor Leagues by the team.

St. Louis seems to be headed for some sort of a rebuild this off-season. This of course shouldn't include arbitration eligible players, but how about players who they recently started to be down on?Nolan Gorman makes a lot of sense in the latter case.

Nolan Gorman is coming off of a down year if we're being honest here. He batted .203/.271/.400, with a still decent 19 home runs and 50 RBI in 107 games and 365 AB. He still has enough power for a 30 home run season. More power is exactly what the Miami Marlins need.

Things went a lot better for Gorman last season. He batted .236/.328/.478, with 27 home runs and 76 RBI in 119 games and 406 AB. The batting average is obviously not ideal, but once again you can see how much power he has. He had a 2.4 WAR last season and can play both second base and third base. This type of versatility should be valuable to Peter Bendix, considering his background with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Do I expect St. Louis to actually trade Nolan Gorman this off-season? Do I expect the Miami Marlins to acquire him? My answer is most likely "no" to both. St. Louis probably won't sell low just yet, but Bendix should still look into it.
