The Marlins can help the state rivals in an interesting way
As the off-season is underway, the Miami Marlins are going to be looking for upgrades. This is of course secondary to The Fish searching for a new manager of course. There is another issue that is going on however. An issue that is affecting another Major League Florida team. I'm of course talking about the stadium situation affecting the Tampa Bay Rays.
Can the Miami Marlins help the Tampa Bay Rays?
There's a rivalry going on between the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays. Not a real heated rivalry, as the teams are of course in separate leagues and separate divisions. The Fish have also been historically more successful, winning two World Series since the first season in 1993. Tampa has never won one, though they did win two pennants in 2008 and 2020.
Unfortunately, there's no room for bragging right now. The recent hurricane in Tampa has severely damaged their stadium Tropicana Field. They're actually planning on moving to a new stadium for the 2028 season. This means that it doesn't really make much sense for them to repair the stadium in time for next season. They're looking at it as an unnecessary expense, which makes sense of course.
Right now there's talk of the Rays playing in a Minor League stadium due to the situation. This is a strangely bizarre situation, as the Athletics are actually facing the same situation in the 2025 season. That's going to be not ideal to have two Major League teams play in Minor League stadiums. What if the Miami Marlins step in to help?
hat if the Marlins offer to let the Tampa Bay Rays play in loanDepot Park next season as tenants? This would actually not only be a morally good thing to do, but also make some money for the team, as the Rays would obviously pay for the use of the stadium. Is it possible that The Fish can actually do something like this? I suspect that it won't happen, but I see it as a pretty good solution, with both teams working together to fix the situation.
