The Miami Marlins struck gold with one of their most meaningful additions of the Peter Bendix era. The franchise officially added Venezuelan star Andrew Salas (MLB's 5th highest-ranked international prospect) during MLB's international signing period. Miami's $3.7 million commitment is expected to be the third-highest of this global class.

Salas is only 16 years old and has a long path before affecting the MLB roster. However, his profile already jumps off the page. He already features plus speed (50-grade on a scale of 20-to-80), aiding his defensive abilities and base-running. His efficient swing also has a surprising amount of pop (40-grade power) for someone so young. He has plenty of room to grow in both areas as he builds natural strength as he enters his athletic prime.

The international star's best trait is his defensive upside (65-grade fielding). He has the athleticism and speed to play either centerfield or shortstop, making him a fascinating super-utility star in Miami's system.

Salas also has significant MLB roots. His father, grandfather, and uncle were both minor-league talents. One brother, Jose Salas Jr, is a minor leaguer in the Minnesota Twins system. Another brother, Ethan Salas, is one of the top players in the San Diego Padres' farm system, and MLB's #19 ranked prospect. He has the potential to be baseball's next superstar catcher.

The newest Marlin has the potential to quickly become the best position player in Miami's system. The club, which has lacked top-tier assets in their farm system, now has another high-upside piece to build its future around.

This is a slam-dunk victory for Bendix, the Marlins, and Miami fans everywhere!
