You probably haven’t heard that much about Maicol Sosa, a right-fielder for the Dominican Summer League Marlins for the past two seasons, but that could change in a hurry.

Sosa is a 6’2″, 185 lb. right-hander born on February 9th, 1999. Sosa was not signed during the international free agent signing bonanza that happens annually around the start of July in 2016. The Miami Marlins did find him and ink him to a deal on October 8th of that year. He made his professional debut last season with the DSL Marlins, and hit .200/.241/.218 in 21 games.

Sosa, who is still just 19-years-old, spent another season with DSL this year. In 41 games thus far, he has greatly improved his slashline to .252/.363/.393, with five home runs and 16 RBI. He’s also stolen 11 bases.

Sosa’s bat has started to come alive for the Marlins over the past six games. He’s nine for his last 21 from the plate, with four walks, a double, two homers, four RBI, and two stolen bases. In yesterday’s 7-6 victory over the DSL Red Sox1, Sosa went two-for-three with a walk, two runs, two stolen bases, and a two-run homer.

If Sosa continues to progress, we can look for him at Miami Marlins Spring Training around 2023. Most DSL prospects do not make it that far, but the batch currently playing also features infielder Dalvy Rosario and pitcher Luis Palacios.
