The Miami Marlins minor league system got started in earnest today in three contests.

Throughout the 2019 season, Marlin Maniac will be keeping you up to speed with all the goings-on throughout the Miami Marlins minor league system. There were four games scheduled tonight, across Miami’s top four affiliates. They managed a grand total of one run between all teams.

New Orleans Baby Cakes

Triple-A Pacific Coast League

The Baby Cakes and the Round Rock Express got rained out in tonight’s contest. The makeup date has not yet been announced.

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

Double-A Southern League

The Jumbo Shrimp were one-hit by the Jackson Generals at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville with 8,630 in attendance. Justin Twine now has the only non-.000 average on the team after a Justin Donatella five-inning effort. Three Jackson relievers followed with four no-hit innings.

On the other side of the ball, Robert Dugger started and lost, striking out six in four innings of work. He allowed four hits and walked five for an in-game 2.25 WHIP. He took the 5-0 loss. Parker Bugg struck out four over two hitless innings, Jeff Kinley followed with a two inning appearance and surrendered a run on two hits. Jordan Milbrath pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Jupiter Hammerheads

Advanced-A Florida State League

With 5,116 in attendance at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, the Hammerheads hosted the Palm Beach Cardinals. Former first round pick Trevor Rogers struck out four in 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks. He put 48-of-84 pitches over the plate, and took the loss, a 4-1 affair.

Alejandro Mateo relieved Rogers in the fourth innings, and pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings. Mateo struck out three and walked a pair. Vincenzo Aiello and birthday boy Tyler Stevens each surrendered a run in their respective innings of relief.

Only Tristan Pompey collected more than one hit in the game, and only Lazaro Alonso had a multi-base-hit, a sixth-inning RBI-double that scored Jupiter’s only run of the game. Nick Fortes and Corey Bird also collected singles in the contest.

Clinton LumberKings

Single-A Midwest League

Chris Vallimont got the LumberKings off to a fine start with a five-inning one-hit effort, striking out eight Kane County Cougars. He got 46-of-72 over the plate, and left the game tied at zero. With 2,461 in attendance at Northwestern Medicine Field, Vallimont was relieved by Nestor Bautista for the sixth inning.

Jerar Encarnacion collected three singles to lead the LumberKings. The only other players on Clinton to safely base-hit were Christopher Torres and Demetrius Sims.
