The Miami Marlins have a top catching prospect in Joe Mack. He will be needed more as we know that sadly Nick Fortes is not working out as the team's catcher. What if The Fish looked for a return in the off-season? Would that actually make more sense? A veteran can be picked up who will be cheered by the fanbase and can help ease Mack in. Who is it? J.T. Realmuto!
J.T. Realmuto should be a target for the Miami Marlins in the off-season.
Miami Marlins fans were annoyed to see J.T. Realmuto get traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. It was a bad trade, and it's a shame tha we had to see it happen. Since the trade happened, the return was a disaster and it made the trade go on the record as one of the worst in franchise history. Is it possible that it can be mildly rectified?
What if The Fish target Realmuto in the off-season? The former Marlins catcher is going to be hitting free agency in the off-season, and it seems like if The Fish are interested, he could very well be an option for the team.
J.T. Realmuto played for The Fish from 2014 to 2018. During that time, he batted .279/.327/.442 and was worth 13.8 WAR. His best season came in 2018 (though not according to the 0.1 WAR more he was worth in 2017). In 2018, Realmuto batted .277/.340/.484, with 21 home runs and 74 RBI in 125 games and 477 AB. Actually considering the less AB's in 2018, that was indeed his best season.
He played for the Philadelphia Phillies since the 2019 season, but things haven't been as good for him in 2024. That season, he batted .266/.322/.429, with 14 home runs and 47 RBI in 99 games and 380 AB. He was worth 3.0 WAR, but it's been a decline for him over the last few seasons. The Phillies are likely to move on from him and the 34 year old may end up signing a short deal. Why can't the Miami Marlins reach out to the former fan favorite?
