Another pitching target the Miami Marlins can pursue

The Miami Marlins are not active on the trade market, but need some inning-eating starting pitchers. I expect Peter Bendix to end up signing one before the off-season ends. Who will it be? I have a few options in mind and one of them is former St. Louis Cardinals top of the rotation arm Lance Lynn. He shouldn't be expensive, so The Fisg should have no problem signing him.

Could the Miami Marlins sign Lance Lynn for the rotation?

The Miami Marlins can't possibly end this off-season without signing another arm for the rotation. One such arm is the aforementioned Lance Lynn. The proven veteran leader has a career 3.74 ERA/3.82 FIP, with 9.0 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 23 games and 117.1 innings pitched. These are actually solid marks, and would probably lead to him making more money, but it just so happens that he's already 37 years old. He will turn 38 during the 2025 season.

How did Lynn do in the 2024 season? He pitched to a 3.84 ERA/4.31 FIP, with 8.4 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 23 games and 117.1 innings pitched. As you can see, it's certainly not elite production. It might also actually be a bit concerning that he missed some significant time. That said, he does have strong career marks and he can always pitch in more innings in 2025.

Lynn was actually pretty good just a few seasons ago. Back in the 2021 season, he pitched to a 3.99 ERA/3.82 FIP, with an elite 9.2 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 in 21 games and 121.2 innings pitched. It was once again not ideal, but still some good production. If anything, maybe the Miami Marlins can flip him at the Trade Deadline. Wouldn't that still be a good enough result for The Fish?

Should the Miami Marlins actually sign Lance Lynn for the 2025 season? It could certainly make some sense for The Fish. He can eat innings and then be flipped at the Trade Deadline if he's actually good. Peter Bendix should definitely look into signing him for the 2025 season.
