Bad news are suddenly here for the Miami Marlins. In surprising news for a promising starting pitcher, the sadly somewhat injury-prone Braxton Garrett will now miss the entire 2025 season. He'll be undergoing revision surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. It's time to take a look at these sad news and see what The Fish will now do next.

The Miami Marlins lost Braxton Garrett for the entire 2025 season.

Braxton Garrett debuted for the Miami Marlins in the 2020 season. That season, he pitched to a 5.87 ERA/8.15 FIP, with 9.4 K/9 and 5.9 BB/9 in 2 games and 7.2 innings pitched. He followed that up in the 2021 season with a 5.03 ERA/4.38 FIP, with 8.5 K/9 and 5.3 BB/9 in 8 games (7 starts) and 34.0 innings pitched.

At that point in his career, Garrett didn't really look like anything special. The FIP was promising for him in 2021, but his ERA was terrible in both seasons and he was walking way too many batters. The strikeout rate was however very promising. It was going to be interesting to see if he would ever get his strikeouts under control.

The 2022 season saw better things from Garrett, as he pitched to a much better 3.58 ERA/3.56 FIP, with 9.2 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 17 games and 88.0 innings pitched. This was looking like the breakthrough that had been hoped for from him. He still needed to do it in more innings. In 2023 that is exactly what he did, as he pitched to a 3.66 ERA/3.68 FIP, with 8.8 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 in 31 games (30 starts).

The 2024 season opened with a lot of promise, but sadly it just wasn't meant to be. Braxton Garrett pitched to a poor 5.35 ERA/3.81 FIP, with 8.3 K/9 and 1.0 BB/9 in 7 games and 37.0 innings pitched. His control came a long way, but injuries got him that season. It's a shame that he can't bounce back in 2025. I wish Braxton Garrett a speedy recovery, and the Miami Marlins are looking for a replacement in free agency.
