Bad news for Miami Marlins rivals are growing

It's time for the season to start soon as Spring Training is coming to an end. The Miami Marlins have some catching questions and an interesting long-term outlook at the position. Marlins rivals the New York Mets have an issue of their own. That issue is also at the catching position, as their star catcher Francisco Alvarez is now injured. It's not a season-ending injury, as he's only out for two months at most.

Miami Marlins rivals are already dealing with injury issues.

I never wish injuries on anyone. That includes players from the Miami Marlins' rival teams. It's always the most frustrating part of Spring Training for me, when players get injured and end up missing the season or large parts of it. So far The Fish have been lucky to avoid them, but I don't want to jinx it and anything can happen sadly before the season starts.

In the meantime, the New York Mets were not so lucky. Catcher Francisco Alvarez has a fractured left hamate bone, which is supposed to take him out for 6 to 8 weeks. This is definitely frustrating for them, as Alvarez looked like he could have a big season in an already impressive looking Mets lineup.

Alvarez debuted in 2022, with a .167/.286/.500 batting line, with a home run and RBI in 5 games and 12 AB. He was worth 0.0 WAR. The following season in 2023, he batted .209/.284/.437, with 25 home runs and 63 RBI in 123 games and 382 AB. He was worth 1.0 WAR for that. The power definitely showed more potential. He followed that up last season, with a .237/.307/.403 batting line, with 11 home runs and 47 RBI in 100 games and 308 AB. He was worth 0.8 WAR.

Francisco Alvarez has never had a complete season, but it certainly looked like that it would be a good one if he received enough AB's. Sadly for both Alvarez and the Mets, he won't get that opportunity for at least two months. Hopefully he will be back as soon as possible and will be able to stay healthy.
