Agustin Ramirez is a promising top prospect for the Miami Marlins and for the team's catching mix. As we look at all of the promotions available this upcoming season, this is just another interesting piece of news as the season nears. The piece of news is whether or not Agustin will actually end up playing catcher after all.

Will Agustin Ramirez stick at catcher for the Miami Marlins?

The Miami Marlins had a dilemma at catcher for a while. Nick Fortes is clearly not the long-term solution at this point, though he did seemed to have improved in the second half last season. At the end of the day however, he has a career .222/.275/.344 batting line. His final batting line for the 2024 season was also an unimpressive .227/.259/.318, with 4 home runs and 29 RBI in 110 games and 308 AB.

I do hope that Fortes can get better in 2025, but realistically he's not the long-term answer at the position. Enter top prospect Agustin Ramirez. Ramirez is a catching prospect, but it's been said that he can't stick at the position. It's been the general belief that he will have to switch positions, and that he will eventually end up at first base or DH for The Fish.

Agustin has different ideas about that however. He's been using Duolingo and the team's staff to learn English. He hasn't giving up on sticking at catcher when he eventually gets the call-up to the Major Leagues. He had this to say:

"I'm great. I feel great. I'm working with my defense and working with my English, talking with the other guys. … I remember 2023 I felt a little bit quiet. They tell me, ‘Talk more.’ I remember this part, and right now I feel much more comfortable and better.”

It appears that Peter Bendix sees Agustin Ramirez as a catcher long-term however. He said:

"He's a catcher. He believes in himself as a catcher. We believe in him as a catcher.”

One of the things that Agustin has been working on is improving his defense, in order to cut down on the amount of times he's stolen bases on. It remains to be seen if Agustin Ramirez will end up at catcher for the Miami Marlins, but it will be interesting to see for certain.
