Interesting Miami Marlins former player notes
It's time for the Miami Marlins to be connected to some players this off-season. There's some exciting players coming up from the farm and I want to see The Fish add to a future winning core. In the meantime, a former player is back on the market and another player is staying with his current team. The players in question are JT Chargois and Jacob Stallings.
Two former Miami Marlins players are facing different futures.
Jacob Stallings was supposed to fix the Miami Marlins' catching situation. He failed to do so in a pretty remarkably bad way. Playing for the team from 2022 to 2023, he batted .210/.287/.290 in 202 games and 587 AB. He was worth a dreadful -1.4 WAR for that performance. He was so bad that the team seemingly couldn't wait to get rid of him.
Do you know how frustrating it was to watch Stallings play for the Colorado Rockies in the 2024 season?! The formerly terrible player suddenly exploded in Coors Field and batted .263/.357/.453, with 9 home runs and 36 RBI in 82 games and 243 AB. He was worth a much improved 1.7 WAR for that performance this time around. He now re-signed with Colorado for 1 year/$2.5 million, with a mutual option for $2 million. It's a good deal for both sides.
Another former Marlins player is righty relief pitcher JT Chargois. The pitcher pitched to a 2.23 ERA/4.90 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 36 games and 36.1 innings pitched. He did this with both The Fish and the Seattle Mariners. Pitching just for The Fish, he pitched to a 1.62 ERA/5.33 FIP, with 6.5 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 in 15 games and 16.2 innings pitched. It wasn't a great performance and that ERA was honestly very misleading. The Seattle Mariners have now designated him for assignment.
The Miami Marlins are not going to miss either Jacob Stallings or JT Chargois. Stallings is having a career Renaissance and Chargois will hopefully get better on a new team. Maybe things will get better for him on a new team.
