Miami Marlins divisional rivals the New York Mets continue to make mistakes. I still don't understand why the Steve Cohen owned Mets are acting so cheap, after making a big splash earlier in the off-season. We now have more news on them and the fellow divisional rivals the Philadelphia Phillies. Are you ready to dig into more news?

Miami Marlins divisional rivals make surprising decisions on free agents.

Third baseman Alex Bregman is still sitting in free agency, waiting for his new team. I'm actually pretty surprised that he still doesn't have a new team. What's going on? How is someone who is a veteran with tons of experience and a proven bat still not have a new team? I'm not going to suggest that the Miami Marlins go after him, we already know the answer to that. Why don't the New York Mets though?

The New York Mets could use another big bat in the lineup, and Bregman would fill that void very well. That's why I don't understand why they're apparently out on him. It sounds like they decided to suddenly start acting like a small market team. I was sure that they would do more with the rotation, but yet here we are.

How about Austin Hays? The former Philadelphia Phillies LF switched teams to. He moved on from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Cincinnati Reds on a one year/$5 million deal with $1 million in incentives. That was a solid move for Cincinnati, and quite frankly Philly probably wanted to move on anyway.

Austin Hays batted .256/.275/.397, with 2 home runs and 6 RBI in 22 games and 78 AB. He was worth a dreadful -0.3 WAR for that performance, and is certainly not the star that he was once projected to become with the Baltimore Orioles. He may still be useful with Cincinnati though.

The Philadelphia Phillies won't miss Austin Hays, while the New York Mets will almost certainly regret not signing Alex Bregman. It certainly looks like at least one Miami Marlins divisional rival is throwing their season away more and more every day.
