I've written quite a bit about a certain Miami Marlins rival hitter. The question is where will he end up? I'm of course talking about free agent New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. The slugger is still unsigned as we close in on the season upon us. We now hear that he had as many as eight teams after him! Where will he end up?
Miami Marlins rival hitter is still out on the open market.
Where will Pete Alonso end up? Not the Miami Marlins of course, but New York Mets owner Steve Cohen may just bring him back. We know that besides the incumbent Mets, there's still the Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays in the mix. Who are the other three teams? That is a fascinating thing to look at.
It's easier to see which teams are definitely not in on Pete Alonso. The Miami Marlins, Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays are surely not in a financial position to sign him.
The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals are either set at first base, even if Alonso would actually be an upgrade.
The Seattle Mariners have a big need, but would they actually pay for Alonso? The Detroit Tigers seem to be set, but they do have the money. The Baltimore Orioles should have the money, but who knows if they will actually spend on him? I'm not sure who else is really left that could be after him. I guess Washington could suddenly get in on him after all. Maybe the Colorado Rockies actually want him?
Pete Alonso is reportedly looking for a 6 year/$150-180 million deal and it's interesting to see if someone will give it to him. Of course as we know it won't be the Miami Marlins.
