Former Miami Marlins closer is still a free agent. It's safe to say unfortunately that The Fish won't be bringing Tanner Scott back, we now know that Marlins rivals are actually interested in signing him however. That should be interesting if they do, as they could definitely use quite a bit of pitching help. It's just a shame that we won't get to see him pitch for The Fish again.

Former Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott is on the move again.

So will the New York Mets sign former Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott? We obviously won't have an answer to that question for quite a while, but they surely can afford the flamethrower. I expect the market for Scott to actually pick up in the coming weeks as well. It's typical that at this point in time, teams would focus on the top names, but once those sign the lesser names get their contracts.

Tanner Scott would be a great addition to any bullpen, specifically that of the Mets, who don't have a good one to be honest. For all of the money that their owner Steve Cohen allows PBO David Stearns to spend, it's amazing how little has been done to improve the weak state of their pitching staff.

I'm actually surprised watching as they let ace after ace leave the open market. Why are they so fine with having a weak rotation in a competitive division like the NL East? It just doesn't make much sense to me. My guess is that Stearns hasn't learned to adapt from his small market ways with the Milwaukee Brewers. He's still having issues adjusting to running a big market team like the New York Mets.

It's possible that signing Tanner Scott will be a step in the right direction for Stearns, who hasn't really done anything to address the sad state of the Mets' bullpen. It will be very interesting to see if Scott does end up pitching for the Mets, and what the cost of that will be. He's been rumored to want as much as $20 million per season!
