The priority for the Miami Marlins this off-season is of course finding a new manager. The other priority should be to improve the team. There are some interesting options out there, so there is no excuse for Peter Bendix to improve the team this off-season. To start things off, it's time to take a look at some early news as things are starting off.

Some early off-season news on the Miami Marlins and rival teams.

A depth pitcher for the Miami Marlins has now filed for free agency. I'm talking about right-handed starting pitcher Darren McCaughan. McCaughan didn't do very well for The Fish during the 2024 season. He pitched to a 5.75 ERA/5.44 FIP, with 6.8 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 10 games and 36.0 innings pitched. It was obviously not a good performance by the 25 year old.

McCaughan was able to file for free agency and that's exactly what he did. I'm not sure what he expects, as he will most likely not get much more than a Minor League deal from some team. It's most likely that The Fish won't be one of those teams that willl be looking to sign him. He can relatively easily be replaced by another below average depth starting pitcher.

In other news, former Miami Marlins SS Miguel Rojas is staying on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rojas had quite an ending to his time on the team. The former team leader was traded to LA amid rumors of intra-team feuds. Rojas was never anything special with The Fish, batting .265/.318/.366 from 2015 to 2022 on his time with the team.

Rojas was worth 11.9 WAR for his time on The Fish for that run, topping out at 2.6 WAR in 2021. He actually had his best season ever with the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. He was worth 3.4 WAR this season, and has batted .283/.337/.410 with just 6 home runs and 36 RBI in 103 games and 307 AB. They picked up their $5 million team option on him for next season. It's a solid move based on his results.
