The Miami Marlins could make some interesting moves, especially at a time when the team has been hit with injuries. Another interesting issue for the team is the current closing situation. Who will end up being the team's closer in this upcoming season? Will it be Calvin Faucher? Anthony Bender? Or Jesus Tinoco?
Who will close for the Miami Marlins in the upcoming season?
Calvin Faucher was the official closer for the Miami Marlins to close last season. How's he doing in Spring Training so far? He has so far pitched to an 8.10 ERA with 6 strikeouts and 4 walks. He did this in 7 games and 6.2 innings pitched. It certainly doesn't look very promising for his chances to close this upcoming season. He's better than this, but things are certainly not looking good for the righty right now.
How about Jesus Tinoco? He currently has a 6.14 ERA with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks in 7 games and 7.1 innings pitched. He's another righty reliever who really should be pitching better than he's actually been. I do expect both Faucher and Tinoco to get better as the season starts. It's a known fact that pitchers do try out new stuff during Spring Training, so it really wouldn't be surprising if that's part of the reason why they're having issues.
Former Marlins closer Anthony Bender isn't doing very well either. He's currently pitching to a 5.87 ERA with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks, in 7 games and 7.2 innings pitched. He received two save opportunities but hasn't been able to close either one of them. I'm definitely curious to see which one of them will have the best season.
So who will ultimately end up closing for the Miami Marlins in the 2025 season? My guess is that will either be Jesus Tinoco or Clavin Faucher. At least at the start of the season. Anthony Bender could make a case for himself as the season keeps going however. It will be interesting to see who ultimately ends up racking up saves for The Fish this season.
