It's ironic how I predicted this just hours earlier, with the emergence of another first baseman it certainly looked like Jonah Bride was in the danger zone so to speak. It turned out that his time on the team actually did come to an end. The Miami Marlins designated the designated hitter for assignment and welcomed an injured player back to the team. How doe sthe team look like now?

The Miami Marlins are moving on from Jonah Bride.

Jonah Bride was an interesting addition to the Miami Marlins last season. Bride wasn't much of a difference-maker with the Oakland Athletics in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The late-bloomer batted .192/.296/.232, with a home run and 13 RBI in 98 games and 250 AB. He was worth -0.4 WAR during that time.

He debuted with The Fish in the 2024 season. That season, he batted .276/.357/.461, with 11 home runs and 39 RBI in 71 games and 232 AB. The OBP and the batting average were very promising and it looked like he might have something to offer after all. He looked like a potential late-bloomer. He was worth 0.8 WAR.

It's unfortunate that this season didn't go as well for Bride. He batted .100/.200/.100, with 0 home runs and 2 RBI in 12 games and 40 AB. He was worth -0.5 WAR for that performance. It now looks like Peter Bendix is done with him and will not be giving him a chance to fix things. This does show me that the team is committed to actually winning.

RF Jesus Sanchez is now back from injury, which is great news for the team. The slugger batted .252/.313/.417, with 18 home runs and 64 RBI in 149 games and 489 AB. He also added 16 stolen bases. He was worth 0.7 WAR and will hopefully build on that this season.

Jonah Bride is unlikely to be claimed by another team, and will probably end up getting demoted to the Minor Leagues. This means that he might get another shot this season, which might lead to improved production for him.
