There are moves that the Miami Marlins should make when it comes to the bullpen. There's also an interesting option for the rotation as well. In the meantime, The Fish finally made a signing to improve the out field. Well, to be fair it's a Minor League signing. Who was signed? OF Albert Almora Jr. This isn't an exciting signing, but at least it's something.
The Miami Marlins added OF depth.
The Miami Marlins didn't make an exciting addition, but Albert Almora Jr. can at least be useful as a depth piece. The 30 year old actually hasn't played in the Major Leagues since the 2022 season. That season, he batted .223/.282/.349, with 5 home runs and 29 RBI in 64 games and 215 AB.
Almora was worth 0.6 WAR for that season with the Cincinnati Reds. From 2016 to 2020, Almora played for the Chicago Cubs. He batted .271/.309/.398 in 489 games and 1224 AB. He was worth 3.5 WAR for that time. It wasn't what the Cubs expected, when they drafted him sixth in the 2012 MLB Draft. It was definitely not the top prospect production that they expected from him.
Moving on to the New York Mets for the 2021 season, Almora batted .115/.148/.173, with no home runs and no RBI in 47 games and 52 AB. He was worth a dismal -0.7 WAR for that performance. That's the reason why he ultimately ended up with Arizona, with whom he didn't have much of a successful season, as previously mentioned.
What can the Miami Marlins expect from Albert Almora Jr. in 2025? Not that much to be honest. He probably won't make the team out of Spring Training, and will likely only be called up due to injury. I still hold hope that Peter Bendix will bring in some actual Major League help to the team's OF. It's certainly not fun to currently see the mix the way that it is. I like the players, but I hope for more proven or high upside bats than the team currently has in the mix. Let's hope the move works out.
