Miami Marlins may have a new CF and it's surprising

It seemed that the Miami Marlins had a CF for this season already. I'm talking about Dane Myers of course. It turns out that there may be a new CF in town. As we hope that a certain trade doesn't happen during the season, let's discuss the idea of Jesus Sanchez being that CF this upcoming season. Does it actually make sense?

Jesus Sanchez could play CF for the Miami Marlins this season.

Jesus Sanchez was expected to play RF for the Miami Marlins this season. It looks like he may end up spending some time in CF. He's believed to be athletic enough to handle the switch, though it's also being reported that he may simply play the position at times, and not be the team's actual regular CF.

I definitely want to see Dane Myers get a real shot as a starter for an entire season. We need to see exactly what he has to offer and if he can actually be a viable starter in the Major Leagues. Jesus Sanchez however is a bizarre choice. He seems to have been set for RF, but I guess we can see what he can do at the position in Spring Training.

Sanchez has been a pretty bad defender and had a -0.8 dWAR last season. That was in RF of course, which is an easier defensive position than CF, which immediately begs the question of how exactly we can expect any better production at a more defensively challenging position.

Based on his defensive marks last season, I'm not particularly optimistic about this experiment and don't see how it will work out. Manager Clayton McCullough had this to say:

We think he’s more than athletic enough, he’s done it in the past and he’s graded out well as an outfielder. To us, there’s no downside to do this in Spring Training."

I don't know if I see the merit in this situation, but I'm hoping that Jesus Sanchez has a big year for the Miami Marlins in 2025. He's definitely overdue a big season at this point.
