Peter Bendix hasn't spent on the Miami Marlins this off-season. Of course there's now a pressing matter, that would require him to finally spend on the team. In the meantime, let's take a look at late-blooming OF Dane Myers. He's making an impact in the Dominican Winter League. Could he make the same impact for The Fish when the season takes off?
Dane Myers could finally become a star for the Miami Marlins.
Dane Myers has been a late-bloomer for the Miami Marlins. He debuted in the 2023 season with The Fish, he batted .269/.286/.358 with a home run and 9 RBI in 22 games and 67 AB. He was worth -0.3 WAR. He made his debut at 27 years old and that was honestly a bit alarming, as he was starting out when most players are just hitting their prime.
How did Dane Myers follow-up his production from the 2023 season? In 2024, he batted .263/.333/.442, with 3 home runs and 19 RBI in 44 games and 95 AB. He was worth 0.5 WAR for that production. Myers is currently in the Dominican Winter League, trying to make up for some time missed in the 2024 season. He had an ankle injury that cost him some valuable at-bats.
He said the following:
It’s kind of focusing on what you can do and hoping for the best outcome. I know I can hit for some power, and I know I can be on base a little bit more. And I think if I cut my strikeouts down, I think I can make that happen. The little mechanical change actually puts me in a better spot to make more consistent contact I feel like, so that kind of plays into cutting down the swing and miss, not missing good pitches that I get to hit early in at-bats.
Dane Myers was batting .276/.400/.448, with a home run in 11 games and 35 AB as of last week. I'm hoping that he can carry some of those improvements over to the Major League level with the Miami Marlins in this upcoming season.
