Miami Marlins rivals making a bad decision again

International signing day came and went for the Miami Marlins. There is however a still unsigned free agent, and once again it's there that he have to take a look at. Will The Fish's division rivals ultimately bring back power bat first baseman Pete Alonso? That's the big question, as that could be standing in the way of the New York Mets making the playoffs in 2025.

Miami Marlins division rivals still need to bring back a big bat.

The Miami Marlins are predictably not in on Pete Alonso. Peter Bendix is not going to spend at that level and Alonso is urely going to be cashing in elsewhere. Could a return to the New York Mets be in the cards? That remains to be seen. It appears that Alonso wants the Mets to give him a three year deal, where he's going to get $30-31 million a year. He will also almost certainly have opt-outs in that deal as well.

The Los Angeles Angels and the San Francisco Giants have been mentioned in the past as contenders for his services as well. As have the Toronto Blue Jays and mystery teams. I'm hoping that one of those teams snatches Alonso away from the Mets. As a Marlins fan, I obviously want the team's division rivals to get worse this off-season, not better.

The aforementioned report states that Alonso is making progress on a new deal with the Mets. I'm unsure why it's taking so long, as the announced structure seems pretty fair to me. I don't see why the Mets won't just give in to it and re-sign their star to a new deal. It would certainly be very beneficial for both sides in my opinion. Pete Alonso can always opt out after the season and look if a better offer materializes then. At this point, time will tell where he will end up. My guess right now is that maybe one of the California temas manages to snatch him up. I wonder if the structure of the deal would be the same in that case.
