The Miami Marlins just took a hit to the rotation a few days ago and then another hit to the lineup. There is now yet another injury affecting the team's pitching and it's getting pretty bad. It's more of a reason why Peter Bendix needs to sign more starting pitching help as soon as possible. There is no excuse at this point for not spending this off-season.

Ryan Weathers is the latest injured Miami Marlins player.

Ryan Weathers is now out for four to six weeks with a left forearm strain. Since he's a lefty, this obviously is very concerning. The former top prospect with the San Diego Padres, Weathers finally broke out with the Miami Marlins last season. He pitched to a 3.63 ERA/4.11 FIP, with 8.3 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 16 games and 86.2 innings pitched. He was worth 2.1 WAR.

Based on his FIP, it wasn't clear if Ryan Weathers would be as good in 2025. It seemed that the most likely scenario was for him to be more of a mid-rotation starter. The 25 year old is still young enough to take steps forward, but even a mid-rotation spot and performance would be a massive benefit for The Fish's once elite rotation.

Any type of an injury to a pitcher's pitching arm is pretty serious to say the least. The timeline is currently around two months at most, but with pitching injuries it sadly could drag on for much longer. I'm very worried about that as Weathers doesn't exactly have a track record of 200 inning seasons or anything close. Weathers was also positioned as the second best starting pitcher until Eury Perez comes back from his own injury mid-season.

The Miami Marlins not spending on starting pitching is a big reason why this situation exists in the first place. Losing Ryan Weathers is not helping what increasingly looks like a very much lost season, and it's hard to blame the fanbase for feeling let down and ignored. I really hope that Weathers returns sooner rather than later and that he will be healthy.
