The Miami Marlins badly need starting pitching and there's been reports that Peter Bendix is looking for help. I even suggested some intriguing options. There are reports that the New York Yankees are shopping starting pitcher Marcus Stroman. Stroman isn't cheap but The Fish are still reportedly in on him, with a need for starting pitching and for revenue sharing compensation.
Marcus Stroman is a target for the Miami Marlins.
Marcus Stroman is an interesting arm for the Miami Marlins. He's owed $18.5 million for the 2025 season. He also has a player option for $18 million for the 2026 season. That option is triggered if he picthes 140 innings in 2025. He currently doesn't project to make the New York Yankees rotation.
Stroman is also coming off of an underwhelming 2024 season. That season, he pitched to a 4.31 ERA/4.62 FIP, with 6.6 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 30 games and 154.2 innings pitched. It's clear by that performance, why the Bronx Bombers are eager to move him to a different team. As odd as it may sound to many of us, The Fish are one of the teams in the mix for him.
Marcus Stroman has a career 3.72 ERA/3.73 FIP, with 7.4 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 in 10 seasons. He's a solid mid-rotation to bottom of the rotation arm at this point in his career. He does have a it of an injury history, so you could argue that there is significant risk for him missing quite a bit of time. That said, he was able to pitch at least 138.2 innings pitched since the 2021 season. He of course opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Will the Miami Marlins actually acquire Marcus Stroman? I still have my doubts due to his salary. That said, I can still see it as a possibility if there's a need to add salary to receive salary compensation. That certainly looks like the main reason, alongside the need for starting pitching in general. We'll find out in the next few weeks, whether he'll be traded to The Fish, or if he'll be traded at all.
